really like the wheel design. that should give the cooker a lot of stability when moving it around. moving mine around on casters is easy on smooth concrete. any other surface feels like an accident waiting to happen.

It will be upright and on the wheels within about an hour...ill let you know how it feels.

Looking great Shane. What sort of background do you have that gives you all this creativeness?

Thanks Terry! I have been a software engineer for almost 20 year...now I manage a global sales team. But my passion has always been fab and I took time off from IT and had a 4x4 and Fabrication shop and races offroad for years. Here is a pic of my last buggy I personally raced, I designed a couple more after this one was built but have been out of that for a while now.

This is a Rock Crawler, full tube chassis mid engine rig. Weighs in at ~2700# and with a 4.3 vortec it hauled but up the face of waterfalls :)

Wow That had to be fun! :-D
I've climbed rocks, but only with jeeps and dirt bikes.

Wow, that's exactly what I'd like to have. Unfortunately I'm missing two very important things to acquire one. 1) the skills to build it, 2) the money to pay someone to build it.

Nice work.

this comes to mind...

His current project is a 55, the interior is the only thing left todo, going up in Oct to see him hopefully the car will be done.
These are a few pic's I took the last time I was home.

Paul, that is hilarious!!

I have had too many smokers that you swing the door open and your afraid of it falling over...I wanted something super stable :)

Stopped for dinner with the kids for a few, but got the doors framed up. I will cut sheet metal and maybe have doors built tonight.

As you can see, I put an X-Brace on both doors. I have heard too many horror stories about doors warping, and had it happen to me on one that I purchased from another vendor.

And a pic of a tiny weld...its tough getting in the corners where the x bracing is :)

I feel good about todays progress!

I built the door frames and have the sheet metal cut out for it. I started mocking up where the Tel-Tru's are going to go in the door. Ill weld up the doors in the morning and get them ready to apply the rope gasket to.

I checked for how level this came out, and it is the exact same as my garage floor

Oh, and it pulls in the garage like your parking your car!

Stopped for dinner again, been at it all day. Doors took WAY longer than I thought they would. I forgot that I wanted to add a front vent in the door on top of the 2"ball valve, so I made that into the door today as well.

The doors are sanded and super nice looking now though and the gaskets are curing overnight. I insulated the top of the smoker and cut the plate, always fun cutting notches to go around things :becky:

Nice fabrication!!

Stupid question - what does the airflow look like? Looks like the smoke stacks go down to the firebox? Sure I'm missing something in the pics.

Thanks!

The stacks are capped, they will draw exhaust around the level of the first grate.
