Jeff Stehney and the crew at Kansas City BBQ Store and Joe's Kansas City have agreed to promote a Guinea Pig Contest. This will be the first contest branded as the Kansas Smithfield Guinea Pig.
Jeff cooked the last two Guinea Pig contests in California and really enjoyed the event. More importantly he felt that the model needed to be brought to Kansas City. Smithfield signed on in California as a pork and rib sponsor and liked it so much they are the Title Sponsor of future Guinea Pig contests.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the GP It is a 48 team contest with a $10,000.00 prize purse that pays ten deep overall and in each category The $450 entry fee includes your meat, kids que (where kids win cash and get to keep the Weber they cooked on) Dessert, and a great SRF Weenie Roast the night before. You must provide your own power.
In the three years of Guinea Pigs that BPS created 60% of the teams cash a check and 20% break even or make money. Its a level playing field. The Kansas Smithfield Guinea Pig is eligible for KCBS Team of the Year points and a Royal draw and a Jack bung.
