My wife has been utilizing a curbside grocery service. She orders online and when the order is ready, she gets an email to come pick it up.

If they are out of an item, you can opt to let them substitute a similar product.

This makes for some interesting substitutions at times.

So we picked up our order two days ago and instead of the wings we had ordered, they substituted...drum sticks?!!

Okay: whatever, I’ll roll with it

Onto the 26” Weber running the vortex with briquettes and cherry chunks they went.

1/2 seasoned with Garlicky Lemon/Q-Salt combo (for the wife) and the others seasoned with Naturiffic Hot Wing Rub.

If anyone has any questions about how hot the medium vortex will get a 26” kettle using KBB, here is your answer.

These took 35 minutes start to finish and were super juicy with crispy skin.

Absolutely! I love wings, but drums really give great bang for the buck. - Heck, I've got Jerk drums on the kettle as we speak!

You two are crushing it, John. Have a great weekend!

Those look mighty Tastee! I have never seen a wing that I would trade a drumstick for.Sticks, thighs and quarters are the BEST!!! You did good!

Just think of those as "Texas drummettes". No doubt they were as good as they looked. Those would be welcome on my plate any day!

Those look delicious. I have never seen that high of temp on mine. It’s usually around 500 on my 26er with a medium vortex. What’s your secret?

Great looking legs. I'm going to chime in an say what others have about the temperature that you reached. My 26 usually hovers in the 400-500 range. I figure it is hotter but assumed the thermometer was not accurate. I have never checked the temp with another thermometer for accuracy so just shooting in the dark.

All vents open.
1/2-3/4 chimney of hot coals in the vortex and the lid cracked is what it takes to hit those numbers

Looks great. Legs and thighs go on sale here all the time but wings never do.

We rock the cheap chicken often!

Ah, the old lid crack trick!! Gonna give it a try today and see if I can get those temps. I have some thighs I’m gonna throw on for lunch.
