Fire Pit Grill OR Santa Maria......

I've never had a rotessiere........gotta get a Firepit style so Mama will like it. Maybe one of the rotos that you stake over a fire would work.......

they are light guage......... one I'm getting is 1/4".......plus that shows out of stock.......

Checked one out some time back

For the money you're getting a better deal but the one at HD is a pretty solid unit. It was on the upper shelf so I had to climb up to take pics of the bowl :biggrin1: Only thing I did care for were the chrome plated expanded metal grates. They were fine and would do the job but..

What is looks like overall

Those pics make the Home Depot look Heavier gauge than I was thinking - I looked at Display model last year at HD and seemed Decent but I remember there was something I didn't like .? Like Bowl was Heavier but rest was Light or something. It probally Good Deal for $200. My local HD didn't have one last week when I was Drooling over the New Biggun Weber Gasser so I havn't seen one recently......other thing is it's a bowl/rounded so shallower at the edges. The one he's building me will be 12" Deep and not Bowl and the grate covers the whole pit. Not that any of that matters but what I like better......I wonder how Deep the HD one is? It looks Deep in the center but not at the sides. I wanna be able to put full size splits in and still have a few inches of side wall and I may put in a firegrate to keep coals out of the ash so need couple inches extra Depth for that. Being flat bottom I can Bank coals to one side.

I've Never had one or a Santa Maria so I could be wrong but Flat bottom and Deep side walls appeals to me more than a Bowl..... I may get it and wish I had a Bowl/Wok style.? :loco: Most Santa Maria are rectangle, flat bottom with Deep flat sides......

At the center of the pit, depth is 9". The shallowest point is 6" though some say 12" at the deepest part.

This should give you an idea

For the money it's great but your right about the grates. They're thin gauge expanded but it's 199 and the bowl is solid.

Flat bottom and deep is def the way to go.

This one on Amazon looks identical to HD one - says 93 lbs, 107 lbs shipping weight.......

It also looks like the Big Grate lifts off and only the small one rotates.? Or do they both rotate and the bracket/leg I'm seeing is just extra support.?
I like the idea of rotating main Grate so you could pull it away for less Heat.....and for adding wood.

I am about 99% sure you are right Smitty about the big grate lifting off and not rotating , would def be a big plus if the big grate did rotate for reasons you listed above....
