Did you know there is a South of the Border Specialties throwdown going on?

Looking through the fridge I found another one of those strange Aldi Tri Tips, but it was pretty tasty the last time, so decided to go to Chile.

Number One Son came over and the menu was:

Punta de Picana - Chilean tri tip
Salsa Pebre - Chilean pico/chimmi sauce
Ensalada Chilena - Chilean tomato & onion salad
Patatas Bravas Chilenos - Latin chile potatoes

Salsa Pebre is a Chilean pico de gallo / chimmichurri type sauce. Cilantro, tomato, garlic, onion, salt, lime juice/vinegar, chili paste.

Latin tip, soak your onions in salt water for about 15-20 minutes then rinse to get rid of the harshness. Or pour boiling water over them if you want them softer. Who knew...

Ensalada Chilena

I think every culture has something similar. I've been eating the Polish version of this since I was a kid.

Decided to use some smoked salt rather than regular salt.

Punta de Picana

All the recipes I found just used salt & pepper, so I figured a coat of Naturiffic Q-Salt would work pretty well. Thanks for supporting the Throwdowns John! Go get you some good stuff from Naturiffic !

I guess ya never know what you'll get with Aldi. Last one was a big square, this one is two semi triangles.

Onto the Big Joe with a chunk of hickory. Indirect to start.

Goodness, Andy!

That looks fantastic! Great photos almost make me think I can taste it from this side of the screen.
