80 gallon offset build

We couldn't figure out exactly how to get the firebox welded to the cart so we flipped it up on it's end.

Looking to finish most of this off tomorrow. I took the day off of work to work on it so I'm hoping we can get the stack on, doors cut and the firebox door on. maybe get the main grate in as well! We are getting close...

Pretty. It strikes me that a nice thing about not building a reverse-flow is you can attach the firebox nice and high and secure on the cylinder.

I wish I had your skills. All these smoker projects are so cool and must give each designer/builder a tremendous satisfaction.

Got more work on the smoker done today! I don't know how you guys down south do it. It was 92* in Minnesota today and we were almost dead welding out in the sun with jeans and gear on. Here is the progress so far.

finished up the grate in the firebox from some scrap we had.

Here you can see the start of the door with the hinge, and door flange on. As well as the stack and how we attached it to the cook chamber.

Nest time we get together I should get the door completely done and the firebox door on. Then it's just to finish the grates inside and get the thermos in and we are done!

The door warped a touch (1/16-1/8") when I cut through the top so we'll see if we need to monkey around to get it to seal well once we cut it through all the way.

Does anyone know where people get the latches that they put on the meadow creek cookers to hold the door down?

Today we finished the door and got most of one grate in the cooker. Just need to finish the main grates, add in the removable top grate, put in the thermometers, and get the firebox door on.

We had a small issue where the door warped after cutting it. I'm going to get some of those horizontal clamps and try to get the door back in true after we fire it up.

I'm getting so close to getting this thing done! Here are the updated pics. The firebox door is done. Just need to put the damper on it and a handle to close it up (but it is definitely usable as is since I cook with the firebox door open 90% of the time). The main grate is completely in, heat deflector is in and the holes are drilled for the thermometers. Probably another 45 minutes to an hour of work and I'll have the thermos all welded in and the drain pipe in.
