This is a Craigslist ad that asked for more brick:
Basically, he poured a slab and used house brick
and wants more of that brick to make a pit -

Well, those look like concrete bricks and not clay. They will work for a time but will eventually crack and maybe "explode" if the temps get too high. Red clay bricks would be just fine.

Yes, it's safe.Depending on how the final outcome is will determine it's longevity.
