So Keith(fwismoker) was telling me about a log splitter that he uses from Harbor Freight. So I check it out...$120. With my 20% off coupon came out to $102 after tax. Sounds like a good deal right? WRONG.....

Its an AMAZING deal!!!! Here I was using a hatchet and a mini sledge to split these splits down to a better size for the smoker and doing all this extra work when all I had to do was a few cranks of the log splitter. This thing is HEAVY. I def recommend it to anyone. It is very easy to use and much faster than I expected.

Started with a split:

A few cranks and Im at this:

So glad Keith suggested this item to me. Def will make prepping my wood significantly easier and faster!

Heck of a price! Sounds like it was worth the trip.

With those length splits not having to move the piston far it'll make fast work splitting them. Imagine that'll make controlling temp even better in your new machine.

That's very tempting, but I need all the exercise I can get. Plus, I have 2 sons who could use a little character building.

BUT - 20% coupon? Do tell! :hungry:

Ya

know, Harbor Freight gets knocked a bit for the stuff they sell. I will say this, I have bought plenty of items from HF. From my dutch ovens to the step drill bits I used to make my drums. For what I paid for those items, they gave me years and many things are still giving me years of service. My first angle grinder was from HF. I beat that thing up..........if you have ever seen my welds, believe me, I beat that grinder up! :heh: Finally burned out after many years, but I got my moneys worth.

That looks like the perfect splitter to have in the garage for splitting fireplace logs too. Plus, looks like something that my son could be put to work on and while he thinks it's fun, it's also exercise and he'd be doing the work for me. :becky:

I gotta look into that. The floor jack I bought from there finally gave out too. The hydraulic seals went out, but same thing, years of service and my money's worth.

HF has some good stuff. People shouldn't be afraid to give em a look.

I need me one of these!

yea i have quite a few tools from HF...never had any problems with any of it. Of course I dont use them everyday either. But for the prices the stuff is def worth it. Ya these skinny splits work much better in the smoker than the big ones do. They ignite MUCH easier than the fat splits

Note to self: always use jack stands when using my harbor freight floor jack.

def make sure you use the 20% off coupon...i get them in those coupon pack things in the mail every month...i used to throw them out without opening until my wife opened it one day to look through...glad she did!

it just comes in those Valpak coupon envelopes..the thick ones in the mail. we get them constantly

you can also do a search for Harbor Freight here....it should pull up the local stores

How many times do you have to crank that thing until the wood splits? I've been torn between this one for ~$120 and an electric one at Home Depot that's about $320.

Just give them this coupon # for 20% off. Good til August 10th, 2015.

Also give them this for a free flashlight!

Also sometimes Home Depot will accept the 20% off coupon if a HF is nearby. The on here in town takes the 20% off coupons:)
