Low quality imported metal plating is problem on so many things, but so much more on a grate, with the heat, ash, and salts and food contact. Also, quality of stainless alloy varies greatly, and you see that in reviews. It is surprising Weber doesn't offer a quality SS grate.
I have a couple older 22" kettles and want to use a vortex. I understand that will destroy the plating. Stainless is obviously the way. Wondering if I need a removable center for vortex if the grate is SS? Or is it unnecessary with the SS?
My grates have flip up sides, which is great for adding wood and moving charcoal, etc.
