Overused BBQ slang....

If you've heard it on Pitmasters- write it down as "overused".

The judges and cooks HAVE to say something and the same stuff keeps rolling out of their mouths. The first few times, you pass it off- then it gets cringe worthy.

Off the top of my head, the one I probably dislike the most is "mouth feel".

ALL of this right here. :thumb::thumb::thumb:

ABT's = Atomic Buffalo Turds

Throwin sticks

Pig Shots

Pig Wings

CSR - Country Style Ribs

Blue's Hog 50/50

Yardbird rub

SBR - Sweet Baby Ray's

ABT's - Sorry, I refuse to call anything I plan to put in my mouth a "turd".

Names:

Bernie Shig
Bertram "Beefy" McQuiston aka "BBQ"
Charles "Chuck" Webber

BBQ Teams:

Twig Torchers
Not Much Spam in It
Bone Throwers

Do I get screen credit for this? A cameo? A Voiceover slot?

This thread is more about commonly used jargon and less about overused BBQ slang.

If we banish all of the jargon mentioned here, we wouldn't be able to communicate.

"What are those?"

"These are seeded jalapeno peppers filled with a folded mixture of cream cheese and shredded pepper jack, lightly dusted with a savory herb blend, smoked with a gentle kiss of apple wood smoke, and served with a side of Ranch dipping sauce."

Or you could just say ABTs. :p

This said, my vote for overused: "flavor profile". It makes it sound like BBQ comes off of some set playbook that the coaches call in from the sideline to the huddle:
" Looks like the judges have a good D today and need something sweet. We're cooking an eagle, double back, slot right slide profile on this cook."

My "flavor profile" is always tastes great and the food disappears.:-D
