Hello everyone, We are excited to have just received a new Jambo Backyard yesterday!

I am going to purchase a fire management basket for it. I was specifically looking at the one LSG sells.

There’s two sizes though. The small one is 12.5” long and the large one is 19” long.

The inside dimensions of the Jambo firebox is 20”x20”. The large basket would barely fit but should work. But do I need the larger one?

The cook chamber on the Backyard is 24x48.

Which one will be the better size basket? Anyone else using one in their Backyard?

Thanks,
Michael

I have a 24x48 LSG and bought the big one. if I was going to to it over again I would probably get the smaller one, simply because I think it would be large enough

It's a Jambo...why are you wanting to buy a fire management basket at all? Jambo's draft extremely well so a fire management basket is totally unnecessary.

Congrats on the cooker and I hope you really enjoy using it.

My firebox on my pit is 3/8th thick - keeps such a good coal bed that in my opinion it does better without a fire basket - I would do a few cooks before buying a basket

I recommend the smaller fire basket. I have a 24 x 48 El Rey smoker that is a Jambo clone and built by a former Jambo employee. Mine runs just as well without the LSG fire basket but prefer the small basket, I don’t have to tuck the fire in a back corner of the firebox to corral the coals. I can also easily move the basket towards or away from the cook chamber with ease and without creating a lot of ash.

Well first Congrats and Enjoy That looks really nice
I agree with trying it a few times first You may not want the fire basket

Thanks for all the kind comments! We are Blessed for sure to have it! My wife is really excited as we’ve been without a stick burner for several years now. She’s already named her “Betty”

Hope to get her seasoned up this weekend and maybe a first cook the following weekend.

We will see how she does without a fire management basket.

Congrats on the new smoker! I'm just down the road from you in Concord.

I bought the small one for my Pitmaker Long Rifle, and it was plenty. Reduced the amount of wood I needed as well. It also left room in the firebox to warm several splits prior to putting them on.

Congrats on the new addition to the family and double congrats that your wife is totally onboard with it :thumb:
