A working Bandera is a thing of beauty... Enjoy!

I like the rib racks. Gotta check on getting a pair for mine.

Your marriage was built to endure starting now and finishing before June 15th

Cooking space area.....I don't care how tall the vertical is.

Can you give INSIDE width and depth...?

Grates are 15 3/8 x 16...They advertise 3 grates in main chamber and 1 in the firebox, but the fb grate also fits in the cook chamber. There are about 14 rack positions/rails do you can adjust for height...I am adding 2 grates...With 6 grates on every other position, there is enough clearance for half chickens, wings, ribs, half pans...The only downside is full racks of ribs are a bit long...I plan to hang ribs...Smitty said he was able to hang 8 racks in his old bandera

Sprayed the inside down with some vegetable oil since it's what I had......started a full chimney of KBB and dumped into the makeshift temporary fire basket I made at 7:00.......Added 3 mini splits maybe 10" long and 3-4" thick......Added another chimney about 30-40 minutes in.......She ran at 350 for 45 minutes with all vents wide open...Dumped in maybe 8-10 small mesquite chunks and closed the intake to half and the stack to half......Has now been at 375 for about 20......So far so good on getting up to chicken temp.

I'm off on Wednesday, so will work on 225-275 and thin blue while it's daylight and I can see better...And ain't so tired.

As far as I can tell, the only leak is the gap at the top of the firebox door. Nothing from the cook chamber door. That's a plus.

Any thoughts on putting on several coats of high heat paint on the firebox and maybe some other places to help keep any rust issues from showing too soon?

Definitely gonna need a better quality paint...I have some blistering/cracking on the firebox lid but, to be honest, that is my fault...I closed the lid before I should have...Still had some pretty tall flames...Lid got too hot. No biggie...Easy fix. No signs of blistering or cracking on the bottom, front side, back side or cleanout door just yet...At least not that I can tell with my flashlight. Fire basket I threw together is 12x12x6 so it keeps the fire 3-4 inches off the sides so that helps...Also the ash pan is about 2.5mm thick and there is about 2.5" clearance from the pan to the fire grate so bottom is fairly protected.

Brought her down to 260 and she ran for an hour and fifteen minutes before dropping to 250...I kept her in the 240-260 range for another hour then shut it down and came inside. So about 2 hours at 350-375 and 2 plus hours at 240-260. Will do a second burn on Wednesday and will likely throw some chicken or something on after I play with temps for a couple of hours.
