Well, once the two pieces are glued together, they become one solid piece. The old design, the two pieces had chamfered edges, the new one doesn't. You can see the "knuckles" in the two bamboo pieces on the side. I like the new one better, cleaner look.

most bamboo products are made from a composite. Bamboo is naturally hollow, so there is no body to the wood. This requires many pieces to be glued together to form a structural material

Whatever measures you use, you can not put Li-Ion battery inside a HOT smoker, which is at least 225F, or 500+F when get out of control. The battery will EXPLODE.

Glad I didn't back them. BUT, if they get produced commercially and are available from reputable sites, and get positive reviews, I can see myself buying one.

read latest update and comments by backers, I am more certain that this is a fake project to cheat backers, already more than 2.5M dollars in two sites totally.

Reading comments?:biggrin1:

First rule of the internet, you never read comments!

I must have missed that part - where does it say they are using Li-Ion batteries?

The probe would be insulated by the meat and the battery wouldn't ever reach temps above probably 180-200* max, especially with the battery insulated also. The probe would never reach the 500* temps like stated.

The only thing sticking out would be the transmitter. Absolutely zero reason the meater wouldn't work.

I am a backer to this one with the hope to cut the chord. There are a couple perks ... if they work properly ... that are why I went with it.

1.) No more wires (transmitting is based on the version that you get. the single uses BT and the block uses WiFi that you can connect to your home wifi)

2.) Two therms in one. One inside the meat and one in the cook chamber.

They do have a ceramic "cap" on the end that can withstand the temps in the smoker so I'm not concerned with that. I'd be more concerned with the seal between the cap and the "tube" that houses all the electronics inside.

Ok so the ceramic is designed to protect the electronics and the battery is probably deeper inside and insulated by the meat it's inserted in.

Except for the fact that it is a very low power radio transmitter inside a Faraday cage. It might work well in cookers with fiberglas, paper, or polystyrene shells, though.
Yea maybe, I was just thinking from a heat standpoint but yea the signal going through steel...Who knows :noidea:

Well, I'm sure they know. I can't for the life of me imagine they forgot about that tiny detail ...
Maybe. But AFIK in the history of man no marketing weenie has ever succeeded in repealing even one law of physics. We'll see ...

Given that metal domed grills own most of the total industry marketshare (Weber alone is 54% I was told), it seems quite odd to consider the possibility that no one would have ever tested the transmission from a kettle...
