And so, my first pit and pit build begins.

Looks like the Roxul Comfort batts are semi rigid noncombustible mineral wool batts rated to 750 degrees centigrade.
 
Lookin nice! One suggestion is that on the spacing look at Humphreys smokers. They use multiple rack locations so you can put racks in may different locations. With your skills you can have many different locations installed in an hour that you could use for any type of cook.

That is what I was going to get but I found this stuff for cheap on CL and no shipping so it was hard to pass up.

It would be way easier to deal with those sheets no doubt but I gotta pinch my pennies anyway I can.

As long as it don't burst into flames and keeps outside somewhat cool...I don't care anymore, wanna get it done by fathers day

Right now plan is to have 4 racks 4-5 inches apart I might add some more angle iron in between those just to have alternate rack sections but haven't decided yet.

I had a plan in order before fab but as the creativity and thoughts swirl around in my head everyday while not fabbing it I just think of more stuff I can do to it...as in I made a grill top lid I will show later that was not part of original plan

Inlet hole from FB to CC cut

Top is insulated welded and lacks 1 side being ground down smooth.

Hopefully tomorrow ill get the sides insulated and welded up and ground down. More pics tomorrow of progress. In so uber stoked its finally coming together, if I had a shop to work in my fiance would be livid cause of be working til 2 am on this thing til it was done. But oh wel, we do what we can with what we got!

I don't personally have one...but we got one at work...brakes up to 1/2 inch....14 ga. was no problem. Easier to get my dimensions right the first time with thinner material
 
Man I wish I had a brake. I'm getting ready to build a reverse flow vertical offset and a brake would make it so much easier. All my material will be 1/8". I'm debating whether I want to weld the steel sheets to my tubular frame I'm building or if I want to take the sheets to a fab shop and pay to have them all broke.
 
Its saves from A LOT of welding and grinding down. If u had sheets cut to size already and gave them dimensions of the brake I don't think it should cost much...but having them shear and figuring out brake dimensions might not be much more expensive but will be pricier. I'm not quite sure tho, I'm the workhorse, its above my pay grade to know that info
 
If u were near okc area I could definitely help u out with that too...if u do cut it plates to size I can help with getting it dimensions right, if u need the help.
 
Right now its all in 4x8 sheets. I was planning a 24x24x40" cook chamber with a 24x24 firebox. I just happened to come across (6) pieces of 1/8" x 4 x 8 diamond plate steel sheets for free. So really the only material I have to purchase is the tube steel, grate steel, hinges and whatever I make my cart out of.
 
Holy cow...JACK POT! Diamond plate ain't cheap. Thought about making the door seals outta diamond plate. Would be a rad looking cooker put of diamond plate
 
Crappy picture cause it's on its side but FB on...legs on and 1 wheel...lol.

Fathers day deadline I set for myself looks like it won't be happening. Only way it might happen is if I didn't paint it. Little bummed but oh well I guess it'll get there
