YIKES!@!!!!

That stuff in pricey in the State. A 2-pack of 220 gram jars is 16.27USD from Amazon Prime.

How does that compare to prices in Oz?

Ok thats about $22 aus.
220 gram would cost us about $2.50. but
It would cost me about $15.00 to mail it to the states:shocked:

It is available in the States in British Specialty Stores, or Local Grocery Stores with an International Section.

Our Local Store carries the 220 gram jar for $7.99, If someone stateside really wants it I'm sure one of the Brethren here (including myself) could assist you in your purchase.

Publix here has it, I'll have to check the price. Thanks Titch for showing the proper way of serving it. I plan on trying with cheese like you did.

Thanks for the how to Vegemite. Didn't have any white bread, so I used a burger bun. Interesting stuff. While I wasn't repulsed by it, I'm not sure that I like it either.

Great tutorial Titch. We took the plunge and picked up a jar from Publix, $7.49. Made some toast, butterd, thin spread of Vegemite and bit. Then promptly made another! Put a bit more on round two, but would not want anymore at this stage. We like it alot. Donna is as picky an eater as a three year old and matched me bite for bite. Thanks for a new taste.

I was fortunate enough to try it when we stopped for lunch on a jungle tour while we were down there. It saved me the cost and trouble of buying a jar and throwing it away. Actually, it was better than I feared but I'm still not going to make a steady diet of it.

Do we have Jungles?:becky:

Titch .... I love a good layer of cold butter slapped on top of toast that has been left to go cold so that the butter dont melt. Then slather it all in "black jam" AKA Vegemite. Gotta lick the buttery vegemitey knife for sure!

Someone mentioned cooking with it, look in my sons hand and see the yellow label being spread on a home killed lamb he harvested himself for his 21st birthday recently.

I tasted some straight out of the tube, and I guess it was nothing like I was expecting. It tasted kinda like soy sauce with a bitter yeasty finish. I can definitely see how Vegemite would lend itself as an additive in recipes and such. I'm going to try some on beef. I don't know if it would do as well on pork, since it's so savory. I like! Thanks, Titch!

To be totally honest with you; I must say the Vegemite is really different. I guess my palate is accustom to sweeter items, it's not horrible, it's not awful, and I even tried it a second time just to give it another chance, but I really don't care for the flavor. My wife used a little in Shepherd's Pie tonight, it was ok as an seasoning flavor/additive, but I guess it would take some time to get used to it.

I am going to send the tube to Aussie Matt in Ohio who stated in a message above that he would accept it if any of us didn't like it? Maybe it will give him a taste of home.?

I am more than grateful that you thought of me, but rather than say nothing and let it go to waste, I would like to send it to someone may enjoy it.

But the Chicken Salt Sprinkle is great.... I tried it on fresh homemade chips, and I used it on grilled chicken yesterday as per the package directions. I ordered some more from Amazon yesterday.

Thanks for your kindness and thoughtfulness... and Aussie Matt cans send you his thanks as well when he receives it.

VEGEMITE - The Gift That Keeps Giving.....

Tried Vegemite once and only once while in Australia and like some said its neither great or repulsive. But the sight of an American eating Vegemite on a cracker drove the local birds crazy!

So, which birds are more beautiful? Those from Victoria or NSW??
