I was hoping that I'd be smoking today, but my bank account says, "Not today, bud." Maybe tomorrow. Waiting for money transfer...

I figure I'll smoke something that's impossible to mes up, like a brisket...

Worked the weekend (and slept today) so just now seeing this thread.

Y'all been busy this weekend!

Congrats Dan (and Muchas Gracias to all involved) on a successful venture!

Okay, it now looks as if I'll be firing her up on Thursday, Lord willing! I'm dying to get out there. Today just isn't in the cards -for some reason I'm having the worst pain I've had in a year or so...getting out of bed may make it even worse. I sure need it gone by church tomorrow.

BYW, I spoke with Johnny Love at Huntspoint meats. He has agreed to sell me some meat at his price. I'm skeptical, though, about the quality of their stuff. It looks like the only brokers they carry are "Waygu" or "prime" -none of the select stuff that I'm used to eating. I'm afraid theirs won't be so good. I thought of pork, but it looks like Berkshire is popular with them. I don't see that at Walmart, so it can't be very good, right?

:)

Thanks again to Phil and all the Brethren...especially those who made the smoker shipment possible, and those who enlarged my meat package.

I know what you mean. How is your jaw going to get any exercise with that? :noidea:

all i know is i'm not accepting that excuse...

"i wasn't really reading the instructions..... no glasses.... big words.."

gonna have to take a vote on whether you get to keep your man card dan. it's not me, those are the rules!

the committee will get back with you after we have reviewed the particulars. until then, your behaviour will be observed and positive developments taken into account:

brisket
fatty
yard bird
pork butt
spares
MOINKS

these can be considered and the committee will advise when review is complete!

PS - congrats and cook something!

Me too....I cannot believe I haven't been able to fire her up, yet. These past two weeks have been really strange and hard.

Even though I can use the smoker alone, I still have to have someone Hime to get me out of bed with a patient life and out me in my chair - and then someone needs to be here to open the porch door, etc. So,far, I've either been stuck in bed due to sickness, pain, or. I body is here. I am going crazy!!!

Yes, I would think so.
Any piece like this is generally coated in oils to prevent them from rusting during shipment/storage, and those oils are best "cooked out", before you use it to cook food in.
Granted, I do not know specifically about the brand you have and what their policies are regarding such things, but better safe than sorry. If nothing else, it'll give it a good "sanitation" before food goes in.

I gave my WSM a few hours of 225 to burn out anything "nasty" and harmful.

Even if there are no solvents or petroleum in there, the paint itself needs a good "seasoning". You certainly don't want your first meal to taste like oil, paint, chemical, solvent, etc..etc...

The cheapest bag of grocery store charcoal is $5.
Let it burn.

Understandable. I hope that one day soon you'll be able to produce some fine Q.
