What Brand?

I am sure this has been discussed before . But what brand of ribs do you all prefer to smoke with? aka Hormel, Tyson etc

You want some thing that doesn't say it has been enhanced with a salt and water solution

Sorry, just saw you are from Iowa. If there is a Fareway near you, those are good.

Also any meat locker that sells to retail customers is a good shot. (While you are there, pick up ground beef for your hamburgers--people will ask what your secret is)

I use the IBP ribs from Sam's. They are not enhanced and are very meaty. I think Costco carries Swift. As far as Fareway, they probably get them by the case from one of large processors. If you go to Fareway, ask to see the package they come in or ask them where they get them, they should be able to tell you.

I agree with the answers above, Sam's has been my best bet here in NE Oklahoma. I avoid anything with the name Tyson on it as they tend to be the closest thing to a science experiment when it come to meat. I've bought pork loins from them and cooked them and after slicing you can see thousands of little tiny holes like a freekin sponge. If you have a Sam's near by, call and speak with the butcher, he will likely tell you he won't buy Tyson pork products and get's his from other suppliers out of Illinois.

The only brand I've noticed on any ribs I have purchased has been IBP. I don't buy by brand. I check the labels for any sign of enhancement. I then sort through the packages, looking for the fat content and shape I prefer. Some slabs have more thin areas, which I try to avoid.

Just for clarification, IBP is owned by Tyson. They kept the brand name to try and keep things from being confusing. I don't see to much Tyson pork, unless it is in Walmart.
