Canola oil makes a great fire starter when poured over some paper napkins and placed under your chimney. Don't know what it is made from, but use it all the time. Maybe I need to do some checking?

Blessings,

Omar

Confusing...webmd recommends canola oil, heart.org claims it comes from the seed of the canola plant???

Ah if I had a nickel for every time I had a drunken cooking oil discussion I'd have like a million dollars :-D. I do normally use canola for most cooking purposes and use vegetable if it is all on hand like at my parents or I even used some to fry a few months back when a buddy brought it over. I've read all the bad stuff about veggie oil, but it doesn't bother me.

Had a guy I worked with recently ask me if I knew how bad the 4 packets of "aspartame" I put in my coffee was. This was right before he went to go smoke his 10th heater of the day and hasn't exercised in years. So many things out there that are "bad for you". If veggie oil kills me instead of all the Gilmore Girl reruns I watch all the time then so be it..........wait what??:tongue:

In all seriousness the processed stuff isn't as good as the more "natural" things, but I've known too many non-processed food folks that do other things to hurt their bodies that negate the non-processed items that go into their bodies............

Pick your poison I say :-D.

What issues are we talking about??

I was taking about how there seems to be legitimate sources that claim canola oil is healthy and other sources that claim it's terrible. Just like anything else...really confusing.

My attitude is, when I find something like this out I feel "Oh poop, I've been an idiot" and correct my position.
We are all in the same boat, can't know everything, the trick is to pay attention and make the change when you get informed.

Ok...how long do I have left? Been using Canola oil for dang near all my cooking because of the high smoke temp. I like olive oil if not frying...stuff goes up in smoke quick at higher cooking temps. Now you got me reading and seems like I will be looking for some Coconut Oil...

I'll be honest when I say that I have had some very unhealthly people tell me how one certain thing I was doing was unhealthly for me. Whether it was using aspertame or eating at mcdonalds (see this thread).

In this instance I genuinely don't think this was the intention of the op. Nothing wrong with education at all. There is a difference in misinformation that leads to unhealthy discisions vs. people judging other choices in general. I didn't mean to infer the latter

Macadamia Nut Oil. Look it up! Amazing and good for you too. We buy ours from Oil of Aloha. Also, DON'T use Olive oil to cook/saute/fry. Not good.

Food is our #1 exposure, the wrong products used as food WILL kill ya!
