I normally smoke a pork butt and they are around 8 or 9 lbs. This week the store had Pork Shoulder Picnic Roast for $1/lb so I picked up 2 of them. Any difference I should take into consideration before smoking them?

They are only about 8" apart, I cook them the same but when injecting the picnic, go heavy around the arm bones. That's the best meat. Also, if they cook slower than you plan, sliced pork from a picnic is wonderful.

The picnic around here has skin on. I remove the skin before smoking and it does just as well as the butt.

Picnic = more bones more flavor. Malcom Reed has a nice pork picnic cook on YouTube, or did

The part with the skin on will not get smoke or bark. So, if you don't mind that or if you are smoking the skin for beans, then leave it on. If you take it off, you might just take off down to the join and leave the skin on the rest. Best of both worlds.
