"You are not cooking in a trash can!" was the initial reaction of my wife when I showed her a picture of the Po' Man Grill. I had never heard of the Po'Man until a certain Brethren member (who shall remain nameless) was instigating and encouraging me to get one to test drive. I thought it was interesting and the price was reasonable ($145), but I didn't think my wife would see the benefits of cooking in a trash can. I figured I'd show her a picture of it just to get her reaction and go from there. Maybe she'd think it was funny or cute? Nope, I got the reaction above and I thought my dreams of being a Po' Man owner were over.

Fast forward to our anniversary today and she surprises me with the Po' Man!



It comes with a heavy duty charcoal basket that measures 9.5 x 9.5 inches, a 1/8 solid steel heat deflector (also 9.5" x 9.5"), a rack holder that is about 21" tall and allows you to use the 15" diameter grate at 17", 13", or 9" high. There are also 2 steel rods to hang food and a metal container (starter cup) to hold rubbing alcohol to get the charcoal going. Here are the pics:

The barrel (without lid) is about 23" tall and 17" wide. I set a 5gal bucket next to it so you can get a better idea of the size.


Here is one of to 2 non-adjustable vent holes at the bottom. The other is on the opposite side of the barrel.


Here are all the parts (minus the starter cup).


Here's the charcoal basket. It's heavy duty with 1/8" thick metal around it and thick expanded metal.


Heat Deflector. This sits on the lower part of the rack. 1/8" solid steel.

I haven't cooked anything yet and probably won't be able to until this weekend. But, I'm looking forward trying this out. What would you cook first??

I have one, I don't use it much. I should break it out



I do love halving a whole chicken and roasting them on it, does a great job. I've done ribs, but I prefer those on my good one or weber, but it'll work.



Size is deceptive, you can fit A LOT on there.
