Wanted a lil Kamado type grill to off set my larger Kamado . This lil guy fit the bill perfectly and has become my new favorite go to cooker. I modded her up a lil by adding legs and some drop on side shelfs to make her a lil more user friendly.

It dials in on temp fast and is rock steady for hours. Charcoal consumption is minimal and it is the perfect size for smaller "cooks of meat " . It's not heavy to move around like the ceramic Kamado 's but cooks just like my larger Pit Boss.

Black was only sold at Lowe's and I had to have black as it matches my black Pitt Boss. It's an OCD thing lol. Was able to get Lowe's to price match Walmart when they had them on sale a couple weeks ago even though they had different part numbers because of the color difference.

I did buy my dad a red one though after I found out how awesome they were to cook on. Couldn't pass on the Jr when the price dropped that low. Very good bang for the buck. To be honest I feel it's worth it's regular asking price since owning one but glad I was able to get it cheaper.

For indirect heat cooking I found an aluminum pie pan that fit the ears perfectly where the stone is supposed to sit. Cost me $3 at the Restaurant store and works perfectly. I wrap it in foil before every cook. Some chuck roast pron.

How did you make your legs?

Got some 1 1/4" thin wall electrical conduit which will slide right inside the factory legs . On the back leg I put a stabilizer on the bottom of the leg just to make me feel better but honestly it's stable without it. Adding the lower shelf between the legs stiffened up the whole unit .

The grate's for the shelf and the side tables are 14" /18"" Weber grates I got off Amazon. I custom bent on a press brake and welded up the brackets for the side tables. The shelf is held on by lil straps and a self tapping screw on each leg.

The Akorn Jr. Is the best Akorn made. They are a great little cooking machine. Great for camping, tail baiting, and as an adjunct to the main cooker. I'd snap one up in a minute if I didn't already have a great secondary kamado.

That is a sharp lil' guy! -In addition to the pie pan, any other ideas about an alternative to the akorn smoking stone/deflector? For the larger akorns, I know people have used cast iron pans, pizza pans and even terracotta plant saucers. Just wondering if their is a cheaper alternative for the Jr.

Cheers!

type in your zip code and see if the walmarts in your area have them on clearance.

Dang you guys are awesome!!! I have never heard of brickseek.com before. I had checked all my local stores or so I thought via Walmart website . Using brickseek found a couple Acorn jr 's just a bit further out . So I ventured over there after work which was a big mistake. I like that lil grill so much another one came home with me . And maybe a couple other things too lol.

I like having options in most things I do in life and for small cooks I like using smaller equipment and for larger cooks larger equipment. My plan is to keep this new Jr a shorty for mobility.

Picked up one today at an incredible price.

http://brickseek.com/walmart-inventory-checker?sku=52497353

Around 11:00 AM brickseek said there were two at the Walmart near my work for $35. I went at noon to look. Brickseek was wrong...............there was only one at $35. Of course I got it.

EDIT: I will pass a Walmart tomorrow that is supposed to have 3 Smokey Joes for $7/each. Do not need one, but may have to pick up one or two if they still have them.
