Tonight I decided to compare two chicken wing seasonings.

Naturiffic hot wing Rub (nhb)

Vs

Kosmos Nashville hot chicken dust

Flats-Naturiffic
drummettes- kosmos

Initial observation: Nhb is much more granular and easier to apply. Kosmos is very powdery and bit of pain to evenly apply. Kosmos instructions are to coat wings after cooking, so product design comes to play. Even post cook, I see hard time getting even coat. Kosmos are Cheeto orange. Nhb is more brown

Cook-cooked over lump, I did add some whiskey barrel chunks for smoke. Midway thru cook, Kosmos wings orangish color, like Buffalo wings stands out.

Post cook-color difference is much less. I don't think it shows as well in pictures, but had I not flats/drums would be bit tougher. A difference for sure, but evened out a bit

Tasting:

Nhb: salt forward. Not in bad way, (although would probably use little less future cooks), definitely a kick, but slow burn.

Kosmos: Cayenne pepper forward. Heat definitely hits you right off bat. Heat masks smoke from whiskey barrel chunks. Heat not unbearable and flavors are there, even if masked by heat a little.

Final thoughts/winner: I liked both wings.I've used more Kosmos than naturiffic but will need try more naturiffic products. Despite my dislike of powder I plan to try other Kosmos flavors of dust ( salt and vinegar next). Naturiffic wasnt as hot, more slow burn and little heavy on salt, but heat didn't over power smoke or other flavors. Halfway thru the residual heat made it harder distinguish the 2, but I'd go NHB as winner. If you want straight heat, Kosmos is Your winner. I liked both products, would buy/recommend both, but if I had choose one, nhb

*I know naturiffic guy posts here, I'm not trying to curry favor. Had it lost still would've posted. Ymv
