If i did that I'd cut very small splits to add...multiple.partials. That way they will ignite faster/hotter quicker. Instead of a regular sized split just cut it in half and add the two halves.

Gurus' and stickburners don't mix. Lump/charcoal you are probably ok. I notice a lot of the better stickburners like Jambos, R&O, One Man Pits, have large exhausts, so I believe draw/chimney effect is important.
