Do I NEED it?
Well, no.

If I didn't NEED a train horn for the pickup, I'd have already bought the sealer.

I bought my #8 grinder and 5# stuffer from the refurbished page, both were indistinguishable from new.

FWIW there are other brands of chamber sealers you can buy non-refurbished models in that price range or less. I have one of these:

They do 20-25% off sales fairly often. Has a 12” sealing bar vs the 10.5” of the LEM.

People are pretty happy with Avid Armor as well, but I have no experience with them personally:

We've been very happy with it and for a household of only two people it's entirely large enough for the kinds of meals that we package up. In addition to the chamber function it will also vacuum and seal the food saver style waffle bags so you're not limited to the chamber size for food.
