My first grill 40 years ago had lava rocks! I’m kind of surprised to see them back again, but maybe that’s because I don’t read my Bible enough.

“What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun.” — Ecclesiastes 1:9

My 30 Y/O gas grill came with lava rocks. Didn't really like them or ceramic briqs. The lava rocks, especially, seemed to have hot and cold spots. Both had bad flame ups.

I wound up using CharBroil Universal Heat Plates. I find them at Menards these days.

It wasn't until fairly recently that I learned lava rock is really an insulator. It's the reason fire walkers can walk on fire. It's purpose in a grill is to keep heat Off your food.
