Stuck on an island: Pick your cooker

The original Hawaiian oven>>Hole in the sand lined with hot rocks, food tied in Banana leaves & covered with seaweed & sand. Until the stuff to build a PBC washes up on the beach:becky:

Is this a tropical island? Or a temperate climate? Or colder? I need more info buddy!!
Your choice of island. lol

Ok my first vote would have to be a "007" of course and also could use the rotisserie portion with the battery powered motor. I'd want to be able to burn sticks easy, boil water, smoke, grill, cook lid or no lid etc... 2nd choice would be a santa maria setup and third a cinder block setup.

This island doesn't have charcoal but has batteries? What kind of place are they running?

It won't be necessary to run the roti but I figured I'd use the ones in the motor until they ran out. It'll do 50 hours or so that'll spin a few birds or fish in the roti basket. :biggrin1:

...besides the professor kept that radio going for years on Gilligan's Island!

That's exactly what I was thinking, where the hell did you get those batteries and how long are you expecting them to be good? That being said, I'd probably have to go with cinder blocks/expanded metal just because you can basically build whatever configuration you need. I could grill, smoke, cold smoke, etc with just that. Also don't have to worry about rusting out the bottom with all that sea air.

I would take a heavy duty 4 foot fire pit with a height adjustable grill grate.

How long before the salt air turns the metal cookers to junk?
Sleep in hammock while fishing...catch fish and fry up fish on the 007 grill top then use some of the fish oil to rub all over the metal to keep a coating on it. Works fine and lasts a long time!

I guess I would dig a small hole. Burn wood or coconut shells down to coals.
Use a sharpened stick to roast to meat/fish/veggies over the coals. For smoking I would build a green stick grill. Preferably made out of Pimento. For real BBQ I'd dig a larger hole, Wrap meat in banana leaves and cover the hole with sticks and palm fronds. My seasoning would be dehydrated sea water.
