My custom vertical off-set build Thread!!

If your wondering the notch on the top grate is for the thermometer. We were 100% sure It wasn't going to hit the top grate but we were wrong! That should be fine to get a decent temp reading right?

I Was 83% sure the exhaust stacked on T-bone was centered - NOT. I call these things custom touches........

Well how did I miss this? Just read the whole thread. That's a fine looking Rig! Way to roll Blaz!

Thanks man! This was a spur of the moment thing! As soon as I realized there were nice vertical offset smokers I was dead set on building this thing! My first smoker was going to be a Dyno-glow vertical offset. I only liked it because of the design. Went with the brinkmann because it was better quality.

I got back home and checked on the progress. My buddy had the exhaust built, and added a cover with a handle that lifts the exhaust cover open. He said all that's left is going over all the wields, Then its paint time.

We did some research and for the paint its recommended to warm the metal up to 200+ for a couple hours to let all the moisture in the metal evaporate. Once its cools its time to paint. Something about if you don't warm it up before painting all the moisture from the cold steel will mess up the paint not allowing it to stick properly.

We are going this route because it makes sense. While cutting the steel with a torch there was a ton of condensation it gave him trouble cutting it.

Hopefully we can do this early in the morning before the rain comes, then we can paint the smoker inside his garage. We will see what happens tomorrow. All depends on the weather.

Here's the current pictures of the smoker!

Patience? You must be new around here.

Man I'm going to need patience for the next two days! He just finished painting the cooker! Getting ready to rain for the evening and thunderstorms tomorrow. Suppose to have AM showers Monday, so I'm hoping I can season it that evening and be ready for its first cook Tuesday/Wednesday.

This thing is a beauty! Going to be an awesome smoker!

Thanks for checking out the build. Was a fun process. Now I guess we can just wait for the first cook thread! I'll post pictures on this thread during the seasoning process. I already have a couple fatties to add during the end of the seasoning cook.

Looks great Brandon. I will say honestly, better than I expected? Not sure why. Glad it turned out so well for you.

I do have to ask, why aren't you seasoning it / cooking a fatty now???

if you were closer I'd give Ya $300 for it..........:loco:

Oh it's Worth Much more but I'm Poor............

Looks really good Brandon. Did you not want the racks to slide out and be captive?

The racks slide in and out. We honestly forgot to add extra slides for up and down movement! That might be something we can add later. Right now We're just not gonna screw up the paint job and do a few cooks on it as it is. If I still need up and down movement he said he'll add it.

Letting the paint cure, and well its raining! Gonna be raining through Monday morning.

Man I'm surprised how well it turned out! It actually looks good! I haven't added total cost yet, but I'm pretty sure we're in the 1400 dollar range. That includes 300 dollar labor. He agreed to much lower but I thought 300 was a fair price.

I'm not talking about up and down movement. I mean that from the looks of it you will not be able to slide the racks out without holding onto them. All it takes to captivate them is a short piece of angle on each side out toward the front.
