Yesterday I went into a store I usually don't get the chance to visit very often.
I came away with a nice 10.18 lb brisket, just a little more than 20.00. The day before that bought hamburger for 1.00 lb. This does not reflect prices in my area, it is about 60 miles from me.

Wonder if you all are seeing any prices heading down? I know you texans are probably getting brisket for almost nothing, go ahead and brag, because that is what I am doing. :becky:

:mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: Do you really have to torture me? I can't get hamburger that cheap. If I could get brisket that cheap, I would drive 100 miles with 2 empty coolers! I might even consider moving closer to that store.

Meat

Up in North NJ RD has Superior angus brisket for $3.64 lb, regular brisket IPA $3.30..I thought they were cheaper the last time I was there.

At my butcher - chop meat 50/50 beef-pork $4lb, Beef ribs $7.50lb., Pork Belly $3.75lb. At the supermarkets the picnics and shoulders have been .99lb for two weeks, down from $1.29. Brisket $7.99lb.

I was wondering when these gas prices were gonna push the prices of beef down. It's gonna be a good summer, I'm gonna go ahead and buy some bigger pants now...

Most probably expiration dates loomed for those prices. My experience any time food is that cheap means it is bad. Because of liability we are afraid to serve.

What you people are talking about. I am in the north east ground is at best $3.50 and briskets are $3.95. I want to add that if you order by the case, you should have ground at about $2.90/Ib. I know that the short rib prime blend used by Shake Shack is about $3.99. I know the supplier.

Haven't checked brisket lately, but I recently picked up a few butts from wegmans for 99 cents a pound. Also in south Jersey.

Have you tried Walmart? They're selling packers for about $2.48/lb last I checked the one by me.....(exit 36 :biggrin1::biggrin1: )

One Walmart by me isn't even a super Walmart and the other which is about 30miles has barely anything. I have Costco and SAMs but they only have flats. Only option is a butcher for briskest

I see butts and picnics bouncing between $1.27/lb. and $0.99/lb almost constantly.

Choice brisket packers have been stuck around $1.50/lb. and $2.37/lb. Flats are around $6.00/lb last I looked. The flats lack the fat which somehow in the supermarket mind means that it's leaner meat and therefore worth more per weight. SHhhhh! Don't tell 'em any different, OK? Of course a lot of the packer is never gonna be eaten but that fat sure do make it taste good. The fat drives to total price higher, but I think it's worth it.

Ground beef varies by the percentage of fat content. I bought 5# of very lean last night at $3.98/lb.
