I was at a kids birthday party last year and noticed a WSM sitting in the backyard off to the side. I had to ask the owner if someone did some smoking and she said no. She said her husband bought it and used it one time, but they live in a fire hazard area and any use of smokers is prohibited. So the smoker sits there unused. :tsk:

I told the owner how I love to cook BBQ and had a similar WSM. She offered it to me for free since they don't use it. Sadly I was not in a spot to take it with me and over time forgot about it.

Luckily this year the same kid had another birthday party at the same place with the same owner and the same WSM sitting in the same spot. :whoo:
He is doing a sleep over so I'll be heading back tomorrow with my SUV to pick it up... and yet when I told my wife I wanted to she asked why? I said, "it is free". She said why do you need another smoker? You have two, you are looking to buy another (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=216312), so why would you need four?

Am I missing something here?

Because 4 is better than 3 and you could sell the WSM at "some later unspecified date" that you will not remember when questioned about later. Free is free...I don't see what the harm is. My wife just gave up at some point. She will come around eventually. This hobby keeps us at home in the back yard instead of in a bar or something else they don't like. Most wives support our hobby.

My wife doesn't even say a word when a new smoker shows up anymore. I think her turning point was when I showed her Harbormaster's collection of Webers. :-D You may want to show her the pic.

I understand your wife's point and don't comprehend why you need another smoker.

I however always wanted and WSM and suggest you send it to me as I need
another cooker :becky:

simply walk her to her closet and point at her shoes and say "you already have a pair of shoes"

My wife and I have a deal. I get to have my bbq toys and fun, and soon she will have her horses and fun..... Lately I have brought to her attention that it seems as though my hobby is less expensive:shock::-o

You should have just stopped the post at, "My Wife Doesn't Understand."

How can it be possible that a man has too many grills, smokers, tools, guns, or beers? The answer? It ain't! :thumb:

As long as I keep the great BBQ in my wife's plate she never says a word when I buy another cooker.:becky:

My wife's digital camera has been producing disappoiting results for her lately, and she wanted a new camera.

"Quit bitching about my Weber collection and you can get whatever you want" I told her.

She bought a camera yesterday. I'm in the clear.

Free WSMs are good WSMs, and you can never have too many WSMs.

It's a spare for when your original goes belly up -you always need a spare.
And why did you even mention it - just show up with it.

I get the eye roll when I'm on CL "window shopping" - but she knows that of all the hobbies in the world, that smoking and acquiring new cookers *can* be one of the cheaper ones. My bad habits are many- but my vices are few.

My wife doesn't bother me about new cookers too much since I quit buying guitar gear about 4 years ago (I already had about 30 years worth of stuff in my "studio" so that was a real battle if I wanted anything new). With cookers, she normally just says something to the effect of "I thought you already have one that does that." I just explain that "this one does it better (Blackstone is a good example)" and cook something on it. That settles it. I am just banned from taking up anymore patio space.

This ^^^^^^^^^^^!

My wife is ok with it. Some guys spend too much time at the bar. I spend too much time at the supermarket. It could be worse!

Yea my wife doesn't bat an eye anymore. Well, within reason...I bought my WSM under the impression that it was waaaaaay cheaper than the Backwoods I was looking at lol

The pointing at her plethora of shoes, handbags and other accessories will gain you nothing. No insult to the fairer sex but unless logic supports their argument, it often gets kicked to the curb
