Best pulled pork

This weekend we made our best pulled pork ever. We got a picnic shoulder on sale.

Set up the wsm with cherry and hickory. Under the charcoal there was a few more chunks of hickory.

Picnic was injected with coca cola and BBQ rub from meat church. Then I added the honey hog hot first then honey hog BBQ rub.

We pour them into the cast iron skillet and close the lid on the weber. It bakes and then we flip. We don't add milk or anything to the eggs except salt.

I have only done pulled Pork once and I didn't inject, should I have?
no one seemed to complain, but they know as little as me

Are usually don't inject either but maribel brought up the idea of injecting it didn't have any apple juice for the injection so we used soda it gave it a nice sweet taste. I would definitely inject again on my next pork butt
 
There ain't nothing better than breakfast on the grill:icon_smile_tongue: Curious as to what the difference is in taste by adding the hot rub first then the regular rub? I only use 1 layer of rub with the mix of spices I prefer, never tried 2 different kinds.

whether to inject or not is a matter of preference. I've never injected mine, and have also not gotten any complaints. and the people I feed know everything...they are 'mericans :laugh:
 
I had the privilege of cooking next door to Meat Church at my first BBQ competition a month ago. Outstanding group of guys that were very helpful to a wide-eyed rookie like myself. I got to try a little of their "stuff" and it was damn good!

Your whole meal looks mighty tasty!
 
Everything looks great and I like the idea of injecting with coke. My friend used to marinate his carnitas with coke and they were some of the best I've ever had, I never thought of trying it on a butt but now I must try injecting my butts with it. :thumb:

Damn! I have got to sneak over to your house instead of going to church one Sunday...
