I travel quite a bit for work and usually look for a good local BBQ spot to check out...I thought I'd ask you all if you knew of any where I should go in the Hampton Roads, VA area. I'm in Chesapeake specifically, but won't mind going to Norfolk or VA beach if necessary....

Whitner's BBQ on Lynnhaven Parkway near the Lynnhaven Mall.

It was on Diner's, Drive Ins and Dives. One of the few non-chain places in the area where you can get anything but Carolina style pork bbq.

I am not a BBQ expert, but I like the place really well!

This place is out in Chesapeake, but I have never been, but it seems to have good reviews:

On second thought, Johnson's latest reviews are pretty horrible. So forget I mentioned that one lol

Whitners looks like a place I need to try.

Thanks!

I had decent fare at County Grill Smokehouse in Hampton, enough to make me interested in returning. Many people I talked with said it was the best in the area.

There also is Pierce's BBQ off the highway closer to Williamsburg. They're always crowded. I haven't eaten there in a number of years.

I've tried a few others, and haven't been too impressed.

edit: I should state that I haven't tried any of the other places mentioned in this thread.
