I’m going to fabricate a new Ash pan for the bandera. This time I’m going to fabricate so that it sits between the firegrate legs and can be pulled and dumped mid cook. I noticed this spring that I should dump the ashes at least once over a 12 hour cook. Maybe twice. TBD.

The question is...what gauge is adequate? The original ash pan is 0.08” (14ga). I’m hoping to use something like 18ga (0.048”) or 20ga (0.036”) as that what will work in the brake. Does anyone have any experience and advice in this area? Ash pan will sit about 2” to 2.5” below the fire grate.

Thicker is better - it won't burn / rust through as fast.
Make 2, or 3 so you have them in stock:wink:
