Best vacuum sealer?

I have the Cuisinart VS100 that I bought in the US, and have been very happy with it. I've done batches of pulled pork, sauces and stock for freezing. Works really well.

I bought this about 3 or 4 months ago. I have zero complaints, and it was only $30.

FYI, foodsaver.com has a big sale going on. I just ordered the V2244 and the marinader for $86 including tax.

I've tried several of the food saver brand machines and for me they are a complete waste of time.

I'd recommend a Weston - reliable machine that is capable of sealing large quantities in a short order with fantastic customer service to back them up.

We started with a couple of the FoodSaver brand machines for butchering weekend and they just can't handle very many packages before they overheat and shut you down. We returned them and bought a pair of Weston's and haven't looked back since. We process 4-5 hogs every winter plus I do deer, sausage and bacon making through the year with mine.

I have a Foodsaver and it serves us well. I would say ours is moderate duty home use.

If you're going to use it a lot go ahead and get an LEM,Weston etc. If it's for normal household use than a foodsaver will do just fine.

I used to have the automatic ones but recently got this one and serves me well. Apparently a guy was told that this is one of the gamesaver's but just has stainless added for less.

OK, dumb question, what is the benefit of a vac sealer over a ziplock bag? Is it incremental cost? Does the food keep better? Mostly geek factor?

Thanks

Biggest benefit is the food keeps longer and better. But there are others as well...for instance just yesterday I reheated some pulled pork for a sammich just by putting it in a pot of water and bringing it to a boil.

I have had the gamesaver portable for about a year now. It works really well for me so far.

I've had a Weston Pro-2300 for 4 years with pretty heavy use with no problems. If you want a good vacuum sealer, but a Weston. If you want to buy something you'll throw out and have to replace in a year or 2, buy something other than a Weston.

OK, couple of questions:
One, definition of "good". Does the Weston seal better than the Foodsaver?

Next: How does the Weston compare to a Foodsaver on price?

I like Chit I gotta replace every few years - that way I'm always getting New Chit instead of having Old Chit. :becky:
( I wish it worked with Wives.......Just Joking! (Sorta)).
