Narrowing New Pit Choice - My experience so far from Canada

I don't have one, shipping is way too insane these days. I was just putting in a plug for their great pits. I'd think shipping will be pushing at least $2k CAD on a pit from one of the US builders, possibly more expense depending on requirement for a broker and so on.

There are more local options around, in my experience most builders, even with a set design, will usually custom build whatever you want. That said I completely understand the magnetism of wanting the real (branded) deal, so-to-speak.

Have you looked at Capo Cooktops in your hood? That's a great price on a great looking smoker almost next door to you, in CAD, although his website may not be updated to reflect current crazy steel pricing. From the looks of their Insta, he builds 'em all though, customize them as you please!

I highly recommend a Shirley or LSG. My only experience with Horizon was terrible. They had units in the BPS and they looked like a child welded them together. Booger welds.

Our Shirley's have been outstanding in every way. The Lang 60 was a decent cooker but it doesn't draft or have forward thinking upgrades (cabinet doors, large warmer, etx...) like the Shirley's. Friend has an LSG and another has an Outlaw. All quality rigs.

So many great builders now.

thanks for your perspective - honestly im about there on the Shirley :) interesting notes on draft its something i worry about alot - im in a wooded backyard dont always get the best breeze.

And the selection is .........??????

I went to the bank today and opened up my US acct, im about at 99% on the shirley. My wife even said she is up for a road trip to go grab it. Not that it will save much but might be fun. Ill let you all know once its done thanks for the reply's it has been immensely helpful even just re-enforcing the choice for me

I have a Kamado Joe. They are heavy but mine lives outside my garage door year round. At -20 they just keep on smoking. Holds temp great. Kamado Joe, Primo, Big Green Egg offer different size units and are extremely versatile.

Couldn't be happier with my Shirley. Thought about going to get but did the math and with the costs, added stress, and time just wasn't worth it. Kevin is great and even spent some time giving me tips.

What’s the current lead time on getting a Shirley these days? I know they were moving into a new shop, and that disrupted some things a little.

On the 24x36 Patio cooker 8-12 weeks, in fact i spoke Kevin their transport guy he mentioned they can sometimes get them quicker - for me the patio model is more than plenty, I dont know enough people to have a party big enough that I would max that. On the Custom stuff I dont know although from the FB videos ive seen that shop is setup nice and expanding big time. Paul mentioned offsets as well in one of his vids so maybe shorter times. Email Tyler@shirleyfabrication.com he will be able to tell you.

Back in august i did some researchs on a good free flow offset. I was debating between Mill scale, Fat stack and workhorse pit.

I live In Quebec Canada so like you shipping is a factor. I ended up ordering a workhorse pit. To notch product but also incredible customers service so far. I will get mine next april.

Why workhorse ? the quality of the product, the price, etc. also With mill scale i was looking @ nearly 10k investment for the smoker and the shipping / borders. Fat stack dont ship to canada.

Back then i ddint hear about Smoke North. But honestly they build QUALITY smokers. The Huron looks like a damn good unit, stable, big surface. I would go with them if i was you.
