I am a newly diagnosed diabetic and was wondering if any of you have had any luck with using sugar substitutes in your rubs. I typically like raw (turbinado) sugar in my rubs, but am trying to cut down on the sugar intake.

Which types are you using and in what proportions to raw sugar.

thanks

I would first try rubs w/o sugar and see what you think. I stopped adding sugar to my BBQ rubs years ago.

Keep in mind that rub's do not necessarily require sugar, other than to help balance the salt/savory content. If you cut back on sugar, you can probably cut back a little on the salt as well to maintain balance. Try using use your favorite recipe and just delete the sugar, You'll probably never notice the difference. If it seems just a little too salty just reduce the salt as well next time.
