My neighbor was the same way when she was pregnant. Normally she would devour anything I smoked, but when she was well along with her pregnancy the smell would make her sick to her stomach.
It wasn't the wood, it was the smell that occurs later when the meat started cooking. Of course the wind blew all that smoke right over to her house, but hey, a man's gotta smoke.
