My family began this tradition about 10 years ago. We now merged it with Christmas since everyone is together on the same day. Anyways, everyone goes to my parent's place and cooks 2 or more small plate foods. Needless to say it is pretty hectic with everyone in my parent's kitchen but that's part of the fun (not to mention my nieces and nephews running around). Anyways, on to the pics. I didn't take any of the in progress but I snapped some finishing shots.
My wife and I did two dishes. We did an amuse-bouche(single bite) venison dish which consisted of grilled venison marinated in rosemary/oil with figs/red onion in balsamic topped with gorgonzola and microgreen pea shoots. This turned out fantastic and will be making it again but a full plate.
My sister in law gave me black garlic for christmas so we thought of a way to use that and decided on a "white sauce" pizza. We did 2 different flatbreads on the grill. The first one I rubbed(california seasoning) and grilled the spatchcocked cornish hens. My wife made a "white sauce" with whole milk, black fermented garlic and roasted garlic. The first flatbread consisted of chopped hen, garlic sauce, mozzerella, baby spinach, and pancetta. It was very tasty! The black garlic has a great unique flavor and it was a nice twist on the "white sauce". The other flatbread was had ricotta, red grapes, almonds, and pea shoots. It was alright but needed more toppings.
Here are some shots of the what other family members made.
Oysters Rockfeller (oldest brother)
Baked Wrapped Stuffed Shrimp with a cream cheese mixture and jalapeno (sister)
Twice baked potatoes and beef tenderloin (mom). She wasn't too happy the tenderloin went to medium rare-ish but it was still good.
Marinated grilled shrimp (other brother, sorry for the bad pic)
That typical cucumber snack (mom)
Bacon Wrapped Chestnuts (mom with nephew/nieces)
BBQ Meatballs (mom with nephew/nieces)
Full spread pic
Awesome spread like always and a lot of fun. Hope you all had a great holiday!
