I’m the person figuring the scoring for the competition. Every one I’ve judged and cooked in the appearance isn’t weighed as heavily. I like that as you cook for hours and hours but only dress the box for a minute. I came up with these for scoring:

Taste 1-5 X 4
Tenderness 1-5 X 2
Appearance 1-5

Or

Taste 1-10
Tenderness 1-10
Appearance 1-5

I’m not into figuring the 4 decimal place scoring kcbs does so I came up with my own. If any of you were cooking this and think another way of scoring would favor your cooking more than the appearance let me know.

You are right, it's not the Olympics.

Maybe the Rule of 7 solves the problem..... If 4 is the taste, 2 is the tenderness, and 1 is the appearance, then the taste is worth twice the tenderness, and the tenderness is worth twice the appearance.

The top formula is essentially the KCBS system in terms of how things are weighted, this just makes it even numbers instead of decimals.
