MAK Grills talk/pics/thoughts/reviews and appreciation thread

Awww fellas, we're looking good here! Just got off the phone with FedEx and confirmed expected delivery of the 2* tomorrow minus the doors and griddle.

I can live with that! Sometimes life just works out for you, this is one of those times!

I was already taking off for a furniture delivery tomorrow and working from home. Co-workers already knew it was close and that when the grill was showing up, I wouldn't be!

Hopefully my day opens up enough to get it assembled tomorrow so I can season it Sat morning, we're out of town for the night, but Sunday morning it should be working on a Fatty and then dinner.

Unfortunately I misplaced (more likely it was cleaned up for me ) my list of notes I compiled while running thru this thread, so many rwalters & Bob C quotes much less the rest of the gang that I felt like I was way ahead of the game. Now, I'm left questioning specifics. I got lucky and found the first tidbit that came to mind.....things like this are invaluable to a noob like me!

If I set my controller to the Grill setting, ill have an ambient temp of about 500°, but have grates temps of around 625-650° which for me is to hot for basic grilling. I do all of my grilling on the MAK at 450° (575°ish) grate temp. If I want to “flash sear” something, I still prefer my kettle or Camp Chef griddle as it’s just hard to beat lump charcoal or a screaming hot griddle surface.

Looks like a subscription is in order to start retrieving all the free info I've read, written down and now lost

Hey everyone. Pretty late, but I’ve been putting my new MAK to good use since getting it over 4th of July!

Here are some pics of my first cook, brisket and a tri tip. I also smoked a fatty that I didn’t take pics of. Probably best since they were NSFW…

I tried to get these images to just appear but didn’t have any luck.

I didn't think this was worthy of starting another thread so I will ask it here since it's full of Mak users.

What should I sell a five-month-old Mak 2 for? It only has 3 or 4 cooks under its belt and it gets thoroughly cleaned inside and out after every cook. I noticed they are out of stock at Mak and Big Poppas.

Does it have WiFi?

Has the Mini finally arrived? Paging RWalters...

Hey there! Arrived as in available to buy? Yes. Arrived as in do I have one? No. Honestly, I just have to many mouths to feed to be cooking on a mini. Maybe a few years down the road things will change.

Same price as the 1 Star?

So wait, I was actually just joking because for the past few years there has been all this talk about the Mini, but it never came to fruition. Then I read your post and went to the MAK website, and there it is! The irony, LOL. Im surprised they didnt send out an e-mail or release info about it.

Looks cool but man, $2,499 is steep for a small cooker.

New Mak Owner!

Hello all! New member here. After years of looking at them and dreaming, I finally pulled the trigger on a 1 Star General. Took delivery on Friday 5/12, got it put together and did the initial burn that day. Saturday did my first cook. Made some "shotgun shells" and some stuffed sausage. They turned out excellent and it was awesome watching the Mak do its thing!

It was incredibly easy to assemble the Mak. Every hole lined up perfectly and is a testament to Made in USA craftsmanship. I mean, how many things do we buy these days that are made overseas and nothing lines up? Kudos to the Mak team for making an awesome product!

Looking forward to using this every weekend and trying new recipes. What does everyone recommend for brand of pellets? The BBQ Delight that came with the Mak isn't available in my area so I would have to order them which isn't a big deal, but if in a pinch I have Ace Hardware, Tractor Supply and the big box stores to go to. Seems the Bear Mountain brand from TSC gets good reviews?

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions and comments!

Congrats on your new MAK!! Bear Mountain is all I have used the past several years. If you have a TSC or Academy Sports you should be good to go. Even Lowe’s carry’s them now.

Thanks so much! I gotta give you a lot of credit for the reason I went with a Mak! Great news on the Bear Mountain pellets. What is your favorite "flavor?"

One more question regarding this site, why do I have so much trouble logging in? It'll say I am logged in then when I try to post something it appears to boot me out and tells me I need to login to post a reply?

Thanks!

Unfortunately I can’t help with the site issue you are experiencing. You may want to start a seperate thread asking if others have had this issue and can offer suggestions.

Regarding pellet flavor, I stick with the heavier ones. Bold Blend, Hickory or Mesquite.
