Howdy all. I would say I'm an intermediate to advanced griller, but just got started smoking and Q'ing. I've done 6 or 7 briskets, and ribs a handful of times. Looking forward to trying my first pork butt in the near future.

Unfortunately, at my primary home, I don't have a smoker, or even a grill! Well I have a little charcoal portable if I'm in a pinch. I do have a Landmann Smoky Mountain Series propane smoker at my lake house on Lake Livingston and a nice propane grill. I've consistently gotten better on brisket and can't wait to try out my brand new digital dual temp thermometer. I'm thinking I might bring the propane smoker back home and make a Ugly Drum Smoker for the lake. I'm holding off buying a grill for the house, because I may want to make an outdoor kitchen at some point.

I found out about this forum researching UDSs on amazingribs.com. Meathead has definitely upped my BBQ game and knowledge. I love what I see on here so far. It's nice to see a well moderated, respectful forum where people can discuss an issue that obviously everyone has a different opinion on.

Just a random question, has anyone had any issue with HOAs complaining about a UDS in the backyard? I have a see through fence facing the street and neighbors can see in the backyard from 2nd stories and our HOA is PICKY! I don't even want to try burning out the barrel for my UDS in my backyard.

Welcome to the Brethren. Sorry to hear about the HOA problems. I wouldn't get on their bad side even before you start smoking. Burning out a barrel can generate a lot of smoke depending on what was in it previously. Try to find somewhere else to do it.
