Having had this very thing occur at a contest two years ago I did average. Brisket slice was dead on tender and taste was great. My burnt end was 100% gristle. Uneatable unless I wished risking swallowing whole as no matter how much I tired to chew just was not happening. Their 9 became a 6. Because a 9 and a 2 is 11 and I rounded the 5.5 up. Showed to rep and he agreed best score they could expect. Filled out comment card so team would know why. KCBS does not advise anywhere I have seen how to handle but can't see dropping only a point or two if one entry is as bad as that one was.
