Anyone else ever notice that no matter how clean you try to run certain brands of charcoal that they have an off smell to you? It may not even be a bad smell or dirty fire but doesn’t smell good to you?
I just went through this, I am super smoke sensitive to my food, if I smell something like that I don’t like coming out of the chimney I won’t like what’s smoking inside. I just bought some B&B oak briquettes that I have used in the past with success but this batch smelled dirty to me & for me (in my opinion) I ruined the turkey that I smoked with it.
Typically B&B is great quality but either they changed the formula or this batch was funky (I absolutely love their Texas blend oak lump) As soon as I lit the Bronco I could tell that it was burning like a dirty fire, the smoke was thin & blue but every time I smelled it I was turned off, oh well. Trust your instincts is the lesson.
