BBQ Craze Dying Down???

To answer the OP, I was getting a similar feeling regarding comps in MN. But looking into it, it's hard to know for sure this early in the season. We've seen pretty steady growth in number of contests the last four years, up until this year. MN is down to 10 comps this year if you count a double as two. Last year there was 13. Our first comp this season was down in numbers, but our second is up. I've heard concerns that the next one is trending lower than last year's registered teams YTD.

I for one though, am having a great time competing. I'm only in my third season with KCBS and I'm trying to do 6 comps like I did last year. Hopefully more next year. I was fortunate enough to get one or two calls at all of my comps last year and I ran on a pretty lean budget, so I recovered about half of my competition costs (not including practice stuff, equipment, etc.). Above all, I've met some awesome people and really enjoy the comaradery of the sport.
