Padge31, that's a cool Stump's smoker. Blythewood does that Outdoor Gourmet turn out good que.

It does well using the snake method. Do mostly tri tips and roast beef on it. I was skeptical about it, but I use it 3 to 5 times a week smoking and grilling on it in the year I've had it. very pleased with it and it's holding up well. I do need a new handle. I knocked the lid off the table one evening, other than that it's pretty solid.

OK, how did you do the file cabinet smoker? I Have on old, heavy duty, military grade file cabinet but it's only a 2 drawer. Could it be done with a two drawer?

Any info in this will be greatly appreciated.

VR,
Harold

It was a fuel hog and way bigger than I needed - I sold it to a guy who wanted to be able to do 15 racks of ribs. 5 rack per drawer in ribs racks.

I think a 2 drawer could work it you had a difusser between fire and meat. Maybe solid plate except for 1-1.5" along edge or series of holes. It wouldn't be near the fuel hog the 5 drawer was.

Top 3 drawers I cut out most of the bottom with jigsaw and bolted in expanded metal. The 4th drawer down I just drilled a series of holes in bottom to act as a difusser. I built expanded metal charcoal basket for bottom drawer and a pinwheel intake on each side at bottom and one on top for exhaust. I ended up adding a second exhaust pinwheel and screwing a layer of thin sheetmetal to exterior on sides and back - then it held temp well but ate the charcoal up.

Thanks... I'm gonna look at doing something with the 2-drawer (Maybe) Thinking I could drill or do something to open up the bottom of the top drawer to make it a diffuser, but still leave enough in the middle for a drip pan and mount a rack a couple inches above it.

How did it hold up to weather? Did you repaint with BBQ paint? Did you do a burn in?

Thanks,
Harold

Question: I have seen a couple of filing cabinet smokers online. What did you do about the painted surfaces on the inside? I was concerned about the paint burning tainting the food.
