Babi Guling
A little taste of Bali.
We went to a restaurant that Anthony Boudain made famous.
We could not get any parking outside the Main shop so went to No 3
The pig is actually slaughtered and cooked here then delivered to the other 2 restaurnt's.
We had a bit of a look around and a feed.
Worked out at $5.50 au a head.
Beer bill cost more.

They keep these critters to amuse the tourists I suppose.

BBQ pits using Coffee Wood as a fuel.

The seasonings, they sure use a lot of these little Birds eye chili's.

Fresh Gingers, Tumeric etc,

The Stalls under the Restaurant

Peeps suggested I taste this beer,:tsk::tsk::tsk: bad Peeps

I think I prefer Bintang.:thumb:

The food, its a samplers plate with a bit of everything.
The Blood sausage was different.

I was a bit underwhelmed by the food, a few days later we had our Driver "Made " take us to where he takes his family to eat.
Now were talking. the food was fresh and not reheated for service, very rustic restaurant.
Sausage was awefull, the rest of the food was brilliant.
Interesting additive is the use of Jackfruit in the sauce and sambol.

4 month old pig sometimes younger.
Rub it down with fresh ground Tumeric and washed with Coconut water,
Stuffed with Who knows what.
sew the cavity and roasted.

The Food
The skin was super crisp and tasty.

The broth was a tasty addition to the meal, surprisingly refreshing.

The housholds Fighting Cocks.

Thanks for Looking

Awesome!!!!

Sorry you didn't like the Anker. I found it to be more similar to American lagers compared to Bintang. the Aussie and Kiwi expats I was around in Indonesia all liked the Bintang better as well. Perhaps it is why you guys drink so much Fosters!

Nah we export that stuff to the States:becky:

So, if the place keeps fighting squirrels, avoid it, the place with the fighting cocks, is the ticket.

Great info!

Nice pictures from a great island.
I also preferred Bintang, thought it was Heineken when I tried it first.

Awesome pics, thanks for posting this.
I also noticed no one was wearing those blue latex gloves that we normally see
in the posts here.

Maybe that's why I think it sucks  Abbout the only thing I think Heineken is good at is marketing :becky:

Actually, the Heineken in Amsterdam is actually pretty good. Unlike the skunky crap we get in the states. My brother worked in Indonesia in the 70's. I remember him saying he liked the Anker and said the Aussies preferred the Bintang.

Looks like ya'll had an adventure!!! Thanks for sharing!! What didnt you like about the sausage??

The sausage was a bit undercooked for me,when things squirt when I bite I worry.
Texture was strange to mem,the taste was unexciting.
And yes it was a bit of an adventure
