Another awesome rub comes from Dollar Tree and is called BLAZIN' BLENDS Memphis Style BARBEQUE SPICE.

or make your own..

My Rub
-2 parts black pepper (fresh please, can use half-n-half with white pepper too)
-1 part Lawry's Seasoning Salt (can use plain old salt in a pinch)
-1 part Chili Powder (mild)

Mike Mills Magic dust is also excellent..

from: Peace, Love, & Barbecue by Mike Mills, Amy Mills Tunnicliffe

To make it a little more hot and spicy, increase the mustard powder and black pepper to 1/4 cup each.

Makes about 2 1/2 cups

  • 1/2 cup paprika
  • 1/4 cup kosher salt, finely ground
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons mustard powder
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 1/4 cup ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup granulated garlic
  • 2 tablespoons cayenne

Most of the commerical rubs have same indgrient. I'm no rub snob I use Lawery on all my stuff but last time I did ribs I use McCormich pork rub it did a great job.

Most of the commerical rubs have same indgrient.

And yet they all taste so different.
