I can't believe I'm doing this again, but the last time I didn't get the color quite right.

BTW, did you know there is an As Seen on TV/Favorite Youtube Throwdown going on? You should enter, One day to go...

Got the Big Joe up to 300, slip it up to 325 hopefully.

The players, a whole chicken, I brined this time to hopefully make it still semi edible. And an entire bag of Mesquite wood chips, soaked overnight, as per the instructions in the video. Used chips, so hopefully I'll get more smoke this time. And more pictures along the way this time as well.

Smoke starting to billow...

More to come...

Nope, no logs unfortunately. But I did remember I added a pellet smoke tube last time. Just added it in. We'll see if it helps. But it's coming along fine with just the soaked wood chips so far. 2 1/2 hours in. :tsk: :becky:

Looking good so far, but is there really a need for a temp probe?

TIP: soak the pellet tube to reach meteorite 3.0 level.

No probe needed, but I just thew one in for giggles to watch temps. It's at 162, crazy lady on the video said to take it to 180.

But if I soak the pellets... Does pellet-crete burn?? :noidea:

All jokes aside, i hope this chicken didn't die in vain. Please tell me it was past its sell by date.

No it was not. But it was on sale at the local Mexi-Mart for .89/lb.

And believe it or not, it was somewhat edible. Somewhat! Pics to come.

BEHOLD the Meteorite Chicken!!!! I think I actually did nail it this time.

There was still plenty of smoke when I took it off.

Was the Meater a cheater? No it was not, within one degree. Although the range of the original is pretty useless.

Now the big question? Will I get a smoke ring so the meat will taste fantastic?

YES! I got one! The meat should taste fantastic!

How much smoke did I put down on that poor defenseless bird?

Maybe a new recipe for chicken wings? NO! NO! NO!

Believe it or not, the dark meat actually was fantastic! The breast? Yeah no. Still tasted like sawdust despite the brine. But under no circumstances should you attempt to eat the skin. Tasted like an ashtray flavored rubber band.

It took a lot of beer to accomplish this ridiculous task and I smell like an ashtray.

Mission accomplished! There will be no further attempts at Meteorite Chicken.

Thanks for following along on another drunken weekend. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Her smoke ring is more defined, but you nailed the skin color. Also, im gonna need video proof of you taking a bite. You don't have to eat the skin since she doesn't either.

As much as I tried to get dirty smoke, I actually got thin blue most of the time. Every now and then I'd get billows of dirty white smoke, usually after adding another handful of fresh water logged chips. I actually did try the skin, that's why I can say that under no circumstances you should try eating it. But the leg & thigh were actually pretty damned good. Way more smoke flavor out of any chicken I've ever had anywhere. But actually not too overpowering. White meat on the other hand... Sawdust! :puke:
