So I waited about 6 weeks and it finally came. It was delivered by SEKO in a truck with a lift. Assembly was very straightforward and simple. Fit and finish couldn't have been better.
I know the Summit is not a complicated cooker, but I have to say, Weber sure does put out a consistently well made product. Everything just fit together as it should and nothing had to be forced into place or came with any manufacturing blemishes of any sort, like I've seen with other pit makers. I had concerns about the lid mechanism, however that seems to have been misplaced and the lid opens and closes quite well. Whether or not it leaks will be seen when I do the burn-in.
I do have one issue and that's with the top vent cover. It seems loose and moves freely when I open the lid. Is there a way to tighten it up?
Anyways, so far so good. She really is a looker. I'll report back here once the burn in is done. Can't wait...

I've had my eyes on one...for a while...just waiting for supply chain to fill.

From what I read somewhere in my research...seems the top vent will tighten up after a few cooks and the cooker gets more seasoned. Keep us informed and share some cooks.

Congratulations!

The vent on the lid will tighten up after it gets coated with grease. You need to keep an eye on it though in the beginning because it wii move every time you open the lid. I think mine liked to land on the full closed position the first few cooks.

Thanks! Makes total sense on the vent cover. My primo got to where I had to heat the lid up with a torch so it would open. I'm bummed that the SnS pan won't fit the Summit. I read that it's too tall. I guess they had one that would fit, but discontinued it...?
I'll do a burn in tomorrow and check out how well it holds smoke and temps, but I'm sure those will change over use as well. I also have to note that this cooker moves around so easily. The wheels are large and of course, it's so much lighter than a ceramic.

They've sent 4 replacement vent assemblies and they were all loose. Mine never improved after use, so I ended up drilling the rivet out of one and used a bolt instead. Of course the only bolt I had on hand was an ARP 12-point stainless. At least it looks nice. The original vent was nicer than the replacements.

Well that's not encouraging...:(

I have actually been using my standard SNS in my Summit. It is a little to tall but if you position the grate so the hinged portion is what lifts up it's not very noticeable. It might lift one side of the grate 1/4 inch at most and it's only the hinged portion.

Very cool!!! Thanks! Guess I'll be able to use the charcoal tray and the drip pan too. That's one of the reasons I got the SnS Grill to begin with.

My top vent tightened up with some smoke soot build up. The lid and hinge assembly on the weber is far better than the primo (I had one for 8-9 years) imo. My gasket is smoke tight and I would expect similar for yours. Ash clean out much better than primo also. If you liked the primo, I think you will really like the weber summit. I like being able to direct grill chicken with the fire grate in the lowest position and get that juice hitting the coals. Good stuff. Have fun and post up your thoughts!

Congrats! I've been eyeing one for a while. Thanks for the notes and pics, and can't wait to hear how it cooks!

If the vent attachment is a rolled rivet you can hold a metal block on the smooth end and tap the rolled end with the peen end of a ball peen hammer.
Tap, check, tap, repeat.

Thanks. I may just do that if it doesn't tighten up within a few cooks. From what I understand, the older Summits came with SS vent covers that had a tighter fit. I think they also came with the double-walled, hinged, heat diverter as well, but this model comes with a non-hinged, single layer plate diverter.

I'm interested to hear your thoughts on what this gives you that the MB doesn't since I was looking at this as well as the MB & settled on the MasterBuilt (for now)
