So I am moving to South Florida and was wondering what kind of wood will be around thats good for smoking. I am from lower Alabama and have been able to get Hickory, oak, pecan, cherry, etc. but am unsure of the smoking species around the Fort Myers area. Anyone have any input?

Smoking woods native to south Florida?

Oak and hickory are around. Lesser knowns are silver buttonwood and australian pine (really a sweet hardwood also known as Ironwood).
I would check with some of the orchards. I'm sure they have trees that die and get replaced.

If you're willing to pay you can have anything. Oak is native and I like it a lot.

I like oak but I am really fond of Pecan as well. Might have to bring some back when I travel back to AL.

Pecan more in northern part of Florida.
Try Mango, but dry and season it well, really a sweet wood. Orange is not bad but, the branches rarely get more than 3". Again, a longer drying and seasoning time frame because of the thicker sap.
Can get plenty of Oak locally, and some Pecan and Hickory from North Fla!!
