Any help from you guys that have this smoker would be greatly appreciated. My Academy doesn't stock it so I would be buying it blind. I sold my Backwoods Piglet a couple of years ago and now I'm back in the market looking for another smoker but I don't want to break the bank either. Looking for some general info... Are the racks decent, are the weld some what good (they don't have to be pretty, just solid), are the caster crap or will the work for a while? I've been looking at the LSG Mini insulated but if I can save a couple of grand, I don't care about the looks. I just want a decent smoker that will hold a good bit of meat. Thanks again, Theron

It’s a Pretty Solid Unit. Welds are Good enuff. Cooks Great. Casters are small, kinda cheap but they aren’t gonna break easily- but I don’t move mine around much - it just sits in my driveway. If I was to be moving mine a lot I might upgrade the casters. In and out of a garage they would probably be OK unless there’s a bigger lip or drop. Grates are angle iron framed and expanded metal. There’s no probe ports - I’ve run probe wire in thru the door with the thicker gasket didn’t kink or crush it. I will drill a hole on backside and weld in a 3/8 pipe nipple one of these days.
I think it’s a Good Purchase at $1299.

My wife says you're a bad influence. You talked me in to a Smokehouse (which I absolutely love), and now I want one of these. Wife said "You need to stop reading his posts." ;)

Oh Ya - Everybody ought to have a Decent stickburner AND a Charcoal smoker. :thumb:

My thoughts exactly. If you have a nice charcoal unit it will fill the gap so you don't need to buy a monster of a stick burner and you can have the best of both worlds.

I guess I waited too long. Went to order one last Friday and they are no longer available right now. Hopefully they will restock them.

I need one of these to go with my YS640! Now only if they had them in stock and available to ship...!

Well, after reading the newer posts in this thread, I check the Academy link for the GF smoker and lo and behold they have one in stock at my local store in McDonough, GA. I need more space on the smoking porch first. If it were not for the lockdown, I would love to look at one in person (and would probably make an impulse buy, so this lockdown may be a good thing for me).

I called OCB.... someone gave me the number to a person there... left a voice mail and hoping to get a call back... trying to buy one of these. Can’t believe they only made 30!

I talked to OCBP yesterday and they mentioned they have 100 more they are on contract for and will be delivering them to "the buyer" (academy) at the end of the month/early June.

I told Alejandro to go ahead and start on some more when I got mine - that they would Sell and Academy would be ordering more.............

Could I use that on my Brazos ? Or is it too thick ?

Too Thick. Brazos don’t need gaskets - no offset does. If cook chamber door leaks - it’s just extra exhaust and don’t Hurt nuttin.

Charcoal cookers need gaskets to keep from sucking air burning too much charcoal at once and running Hot.
